Improved Photo Browsing from your Photo Page
March 16th, 2010 by Roger Trias i Sanz
A good photo may lead to more good photos and that is why now you can find a photo list in your photo page. Browsing the rest of your Panoramio photos becomes easier and faster.
No change is needed from you in order to activate this new Panoramio feature as it will appear automatically in your Photo Page, just below the picture that is being visualized.
By clicking on the left and right arrows you will be able to scroll the complete gallery, and if you want to view a specific image in full size or comment on it, just click on the thumbnail to go to that image page.
This launch will happen for 10% of Panoramio users initially and we will ramp it up to 100% during the next days. You can also test the feature here, here, or here.
Check this out and let us know what you think by commenting on this blog post or in our Community forum.

?Explore the world with Porsche Cayenne and Panoramio API
March 9th, 2010 by Gerard Sanz
?Porsche has just released its new Cayenne and with it, a nice web page where you can experience it for yourself.
To create this nice feature Porsche has used Google Maps API to trace your selected route and Panoramio API to serve geo-located photos according to the route you have selected.
We have done the test with a Cayenne S Hybrid driving from Zurich to Zermatt in Switzerland:
The tool allows you to select between 5 Cayenne models and your favourite start and end point. If you are a member of Panoramio’s community you may find there your photos featured. Give it a try by visiting Porsche’s website and clicking at the “Experience yourself” link.

Sign in to Panoramio with your Google Account
March 4th, 2010 by Erik Carlsson
As of today, it is possible to sign in to Panoramio with Google Accounts.
Why are we doing this?
Last year we worked hard to integrate Panoramio with the Google infrastructure. Now that this is done, we can focus on building new features for the Panoramio community. Some of these features require Google Accounts, and we launch the new registration process now so that users can upgrade their accounts in advance.
What does this mean for you?
Upgrading to Google Accounts is currently optional, so you can still sign in with the same email and password as before. However, we encourage you to upgrade by merging your Panoramio account into your existing Google Account (e.g. GMail) or by creating a new Google Account for your existing Panoramio account. If you already have a Google Account, this basically means on
As for the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy there is no change at all, by using Panoramio you have agreed to our Terms, which already include the Google’s Terms of Service.
All new sign ups are carried out by Google Accounts.
We are very excited about what 2010 will bring Panoramio, and we hope you are too. Please let us know your thoughts by commenting on this blog post, or by discussing in the community forum.

Uploading your Picasa Web Albums pictures into Panoramio
February 23rd, 2010 by Roger Trias i Sanz
Starting today, we are happy to announce that you can upload your pictures right from Picasa Web Albums into Panoramio. By uploading your best photos of places into Panoramio you can share them with the Panoramio community and the world through Google Earth, Google Maps, Google Search, and more.
Panoramio is a community for hosting relevant photos about places, so every photo uploaded into Panoramio will be reviewed to ensure it meets the criteria to be included in Google Earth. We recommend you to check the Photo acceptance policy for Google Earth and Google Maps.
To upload photos from Picasa Web Albums, your photos need to be geo-tagged and in a public album. Eligible photos in Picasa Web Albums will display the “Upload to Panoramio” option below the Location map.
You’ll need to log in or create a Panoramio account to upload photos.
After uploading a photo to Panoramio, it will remain public as it was before in Picasa Web Albums. The process will create a second copy, so be aware that if you want to delete this photo in the future you will need to delete it from both Picasa Web albums and Panoramio.
We are looking forward to seeing your great pictures! Continue reading ‘Uploading your Picasa Web Albums pictures into Panoramio’

January 20th, 2010 by Eduardo Manchón
On July 2005 I co-founded Panoramio with Joaquin Cuenca. Today, four and a half years later, it is time to leave.
Panoramio is the coolest thing I have ever done. I went through the greatest adventure of my life with this project. However for some reasons I can’t really explain I like changes and challenges, so it is time to move on to a new project.
First of all I would like to introduce you to my substitute, Gerard Sanz, an awesome Catalonian guy that will take care of the Panoramio community. He has already been working together with me and the Panoramio team for some weeks behind the scenes and learnt a lot about Panoramio. Previously he worked managing the Blogger community for 2 years. He is very passionate about Panoramio and has a lot of energy and many new good ideas for the site.
Acquisitions can be complicated, and the private nightmare of a founder is the site not surviving the process, but after some time Panoramio feels very comfortable at Google. It has been migrated to its infrastructure, has reached almost 20 million high quality geolocated photos and it is integrated with many other services: Google Earth, Google Maps, Streetview, Google Search, Google Maps API… I want to thank Panoramio community for its patience during the hard adaptation time.
Panoramio success is mostly due to the people that use Panoramio daily, awesome individuals that have been always supporting the project, sharing great photos and genuinely caring about the site. Among that group of people, I would like to mention the forum moderators: Panamon_Creel, Cleber Lima, NAGY Albert, Matthew Walters, SantoB, Peter Uspensky, Daniela Brocca, Volkan Yuksel, FSup, NightHunter, Igor Fedotenkov, Will51, Tony Reid, © mimipet.com, IPAAT, Nguyen Bang Giang, © Andre Speek, Jessica G., Baycrest, Draken, W140, hvbemmel and DL1LAM that tirelessly contributed in the forum.
I can’t list everyone I would like to thank, but I will try. From Panoramio team: Gràcies Roger, Tack Erik, Köszönöm Gyuri. You rock guys! Danke Sebastian Holzapfel. Special thanks to Fernando Delgado, Samuel Widmann, Frank Taylor and John Hanke. Gracias al malagueño Jose Florido. Danke Eva-Maria Kott for the name Panoramio. And of course, gracias to my co-founder and old time friend Joaquin Cuenca.
Even though I am leaving the Panoramio team, I am not leaving the Panoramio community. I am looking forward to having some spare time to share the hundreds of photos that I have not uploaded yet. So I´m not saying you goodbye, but see you around in Panoramio.
